What Is It About Wedding Ceremonies? We Know The Deal, Why Are They Still So Powerful?

It would be so easy to say that the ceremony is just a fancy party on the way to a license for a tax break and “making it official.” Many modern couples have already been living as a married couple before their actual wedding. So why go through the ceremony when it would be so easy to just have a party, get the license and move on? There are many fun and practical reasons to have a wedding ceremony.

There are also some beautiful, deeply meaningful, love filled reasons to engage in the ritual of the wedding ceremony. As with all milestone moments in life, we as humans wish to acknowledge and honor the crossing of thresholds. The threshold between the end of single life to the beginning of married life is one of the most important of all. Whether our married life includes the plan to have children or not, the impulse to join with our partner is so primal and also evolutionary that it deserves a beautiful ritual that allows us to journey through the passage that creates our marriage. I get it…there are so many ways to make the ceremony fun and light hearted and I am in for all of these precious moments. AND>>> there is something more at stake… your are binding your lives to each other and I am certain that when those vows are declared, that providence moves too. Your ceremony is like the weaving of a tapestry or the building of a beautiful chalice to enfold you and hold you throughout your married lives. Your vows and other ceremony rituals invoke a web of connection, support and benevolence around you that is hard to describe. Your family and friends “bearing witness” to your promises helps to shift your existence as single souls, into a magnificent unified wave of connection that transforms you into a married team. Strong, secure and ready to face life together, come what may. More now than ever, we need love in our world… I thank all of you dear couples and also your dearly beloveds for showing up for your wedding ceremony. There is an alchemy, a magic making, a benediction that occurs during a wedding ceremony that absolutely blesses and embraces your married life. Blessings to all the couples getting married and thank you for our contribution of love in our world.
